15 Dec 1794 Mgt. Rollo, servant at Wormit, with child, father is Robert Russell now a soldier in a company belonging to Captain Gillespie lying in St Andrews. CH2/160/3 p.229
Jan 1795 Winter of 1794-95 - inclement season - Mr Stewart of St Fort regularly giving money to the session for the immediate benefit of the poor. CH2/160/3 p.230
19 Jul 1795 The session agreed to send £2 sterling to the persons belonging to this parish who are prisoners in french prison CH2/160/3 p.233
9 Aug 1796 Session had bought in 24 bolls of meal on account of the dearth. This was sold in small amounts to the poor during the winter season (1795-96). CH2/160/3 p.238
5 Aug 1799 The pensioners are allowed for both pension and coals and are as follows: Agnes Grieg residing at Woodhaven 18/-; widow Ireland residing at Innerdivot 18/-; Wm. Walker residing at Newton 18/-; Nelly Reid a pensioner but living in St Andrews CH2/160/3 pp.246-7

7 May 1800 Heritors and session met to consider the best means of supplying the inhabitants with grain for their subsistence until the end of August when the new crop may be expected to be cut down. Every heritor and tenant to be instructed not to dispose of any sort of grain they have on hand until those on their respective grounds were supplied with a sufficient quantity for the time mentioned … those who had sufficient were to … supply to the other tenants at the common market price … the poor of the parish to continue to be supplied with meal at a reduced price … CH2/160/3 p.249

8 Apr 1801 Received from the friends of Alexr. Clark a sailor on board a man of war and son of the late George Clark who resided at the Waterside in the parish a gratuity of £5 stg. for the use of the poor in this parish … in this time of scarcity. CH2/160/3 p.252
14 May 1801 Meeting of the heritors to consider the state of the poor of the parish, how the funds for their support have been bestowed, and the relief necessary for that purpose until harvest next. Present: Mr Berry, Tayfield; Mr Dalgleish, Scotscraig; Mr Gillespie, Kirkton; Mr Syme, Upper Friarton; Mr Gordon, Woodhaven; Mr Hay junior, Newport; Mr Aitken for St Fort; Mr Wedderburn, Birkhill. [There follows a detailed list of the state of the finances, the meal that was bought in for re-sale to the poor. A committee set up to examine the poor and consider how to provide for them over the next 16 weeks.] CH2/160/3 p.254
2 Sep 1801 … the meal for the poor by subscription is now dispersed and an abundant harvest has again … brought plenty … resolve to take on their former pensioners on the poor fund at their former monthly pension of 4/- each per month : Agnes Greig, Isabel Young, Mgt. 21 Jul 1806 Session agreed that proclamation dues for 3 Sabbaths will be 5/-, for 2 Sabbaths will be 7/6d., and the baptisms to be 1/4d., the beadle and poor getting thereof as before viz. beadle for proclamation 10d. and the poor 7d. when the bride is in the parish. April 1816 [Boatmen's loft] Note in 1816 sometime in the month of April the seats of the church of Forgan were divided among the heritors by the Sheriff of Fife and he gave liberty to the boatmen to receive such other boatmen into a right to their loft by paying £2 sterling as were not formerly on the passage and there has entered Wm. Patrick and (Alexr. *) Milne at West Water. (* inserted by Alexr. Mill anno. 1826) CH2/160/3 p.23

23 Apr 1837 Letter from Treasurer of Dundee Lunatic Asylum - Euphemia Laing, a lunatic belonging to this parish, ... might be released if a proper person could be got to take charge of her … - referred to next meeting of heritors. CH2/160/3 p.310

2 Jul 1840 Agreed to pay to Geo. Just £3 as rent for Alexr. Ritchie's and Margt. Main's houses, paupers of this parish, to commence at Martinmas last. Also agreed that Robt. Irving should receive 2/6d. fortnightly as support for his fatuous child. Also Mgt. Landsman in place of 1 peck of meal a week should only receive 1 peck a fortnight. Also agreed that Geo. Ritchie had been roaming at large and become dangerous to the public safety, and should be put one quarter into the Dundee Lunatic Asylum. CH2/160/3 p.319

Jul 1840 Funds of the session rapidly diminishing principally in consequence of large payments for the support of the pauper lunatics - formerly paid by voluntary assessment from the heritors whch assessment has been withheld for some years past - send statement to heritors and ask if they want to make voluntary assessmeny or see the session funds be totally exhausted. [Over the past 4 years, 1836 - 1840, assets dropped from £500 to £239, and of this remainder only £107 can be spent on lunatic paupers.] CH2/160/3 p.323

3 Aug 1847 [Heritors Records] Robert Younger born Creich 22 Jan 1804 son of Wm. Younger, ploughman, Creich, and Janet Smith - living in Forgan parish when he came of age (14), claimed therefore that Forgan is liable for his family's expenses now that he is deceased. He joined the army in 1821 and was discharged 13 Jul 1842. He died at Cupar on or about 18 Jun 1847 leaving a widow and 4 children of 14, 8, 4 and 7 months. Family lived in Forgan parish Martinmas 1808 to Martinmas 1825. Claim refuted - his grandfather is liable and his 'industrial residence' is Ferryport. HR388/1
