1911 Census
The 1911 census of Forgan registration district was taken on the night of Sunday 2 April 1911, and recorded 4771 people at 1028 addresses, on the Training Ship 'Mars' and on 7 vessels of the Royal Navy.

About the 1911 census
The following information was gathered:
- Number of schedule (allocated consecutively from 1 in each enumeration district)
- Name of street, place, road, etc.
- House number or name
- Whether a house was inhabited, uninhabited or being built
- Number of rooms with one or more windows
- Name of each living person that had spent the night in that house
- Relationship of person enumerated to the head of the family
- Person's marital status (single, married, widower or widow)
- For married women: duration of marriage, number of children born alive, number of children still living
- Age at last birthday (sex is indicated by which column the age is recorded in)
- Person's profession, or occupation; the industry or service with which the person is connected
- Whether an employer, a worker, or neither employer nor employed but working on own account. Also, if working at home. [These questions were frequently not answered]
- Person's place of birth - county and place (if outside of Scotland, only the country may be given)
- Nationality, if born in a foreign country
- Whether totally deaf or deaf and dumb; whether totally blind; whether a lunatic; whether an imbecile or feeble-minded.
- Is Gaelic only spoken, or Gaelic and English?
- A separate house is defined as 'a dwelling (1) with a distinct outside entrance from a street, court, lane or road, etc., or (2) with a door opening directly into a common stair or passage; but any such dwelling, if subdivided and occupied by different families, is reckoned as one house'.
- Lodgers and separate occupiers are given their own schedules and separated from other occupiers in the same house by a single stroke.
The parish was split into 6 Enumeration Districts; in addition there were 7 Royal Naval vessels moored in the river off East Newport:
Enumeration District 1
[Ward 1 - East Newport] The northern boundary of this enumeration division is the Firth of Tay commencing at & including the Old Granary Property, East Newport and ending at the Burgh Boundary Stone beyond Taygrove. The eastern boundary extends from said Boundary Stone in a southerly direction past but excluding Whincraig to the Burgh Boundary Stone at the Inverdovat footpath near the windmill. The southern boundary extends from said Boundary Stone following the line of the Burgh Boundary to the Boundary Stone in Cupar Road opposite the east end of Kirk Road. The western boundary extends from said Boundary Stone along the centre of the Cupar Road to the commencement of northern boundary at Old Granary.

Enumeration District 2
[Ward 2 - West Newport] The northern boundary of this enumeration district is the Firth of Tay commencing at but excluding Old Granary Property, East Newport, and ending at a point behind but excluding Fishers Cottage Property, Woodhaven. The eastern boundary extends from but excludes Old Granary Property, East Newport along the centre of the Cupar Road to Boundary Stone in said road opposite east end of old Kirk Road. The southern boundary extends from said last mentioned Boundary Stone along the Burgh Boundary to the second railway bridge beyond Waterstone Crook. The western boundary is from said bridge northwards to the end of the northern boundary at Fishers Cottage.

Enumeration District 3
[Ward 3 - Wormit] The northern boundary of this enumeration division is the Firth of Tay commencing at a point behind and including Fishers Cottage at Woodhaven and ending at the Burgh Boundary Stone at Wormit Bay. The western boundary runs from that point in a southerly direction to the Burgh Boundary Stone to the east of Wormit Farm. The southern boundary runs from said last mentioned Boundary Stone in an easterly direction to the second railway bridge to the west of Waterstone Crook. The eastern boundary extends from said railway bridge in a northerly direction to the point where the northern boundary begins at Fishers Cottage, Woodhaven.

Enumeration District 4
[Rural East] The northern boundary is the Firth of Tay commencing at the Burgh Boundary stone beyond Taygrove and ending at the boundary between the Parishes of Forgan and Ferry-Port-on-Craig. The eastern boundary extends from the Firth of Tay along the boundary between said two parishes till it joins Leuchars Parish boundary at and including Morton Farm. The southern boundary extends thence from said farm in a westerly direction following the boundary between Forgan and Leuchars Parishes to a point in the public road leading from Leuchars to Newport near Comerton. The western boundary extends from said last mentioned point along the centre of the said public road to the Burgh Boundary stone on said road opposite east end of Kirk Road and this district is separated from no. 1 district by a line running from said boundary stone eastwards to the boundary stone in Inverdovat footpath near the windmill, thence in a northerly direction past and including Whincraig to the aforesaid Burgh Boundary March Stone beyond Taygrove.

Enumeration District 5
[Rural West] The northern boundary of this enumeration district extends from the boundary stone opposite east end of Kirk Road westwards along the boundary line of the Police Burgh of Newport to the Burgh Boundary stone at Wormit Bay. The western boundary runs from that point in a southerly direction along the boundary line between Forgan and Balmerino Parishes to the Newton Hill. The southern boundary extends from said Newton Hill eastwards along the boundary line between Forgan and Kilmany Parishes to Bogton, and thence eastwards to but excluding Comerton. The eastern boundary extends from Comerton along the centre of the public road leading from Leuchars to Newport to the foresaid Burgh Boundary march stone opposite east end of Kirk Road.
