Introduction
A gasholder was opened here for the Newport Gas Light Co. in October 1897. A house for a manager was built shortly afterwards. The rest of the gasworks was opened 27 May 1903 for Newport Town Council as a replacement for the gasworks in Newport High Street. Cost £10,000.
