It was the mansion house of the family of Gillespie but is now rapidly going to decay, there is only the eastern and western gables with the north side wall standing. [Added in red:] "West of it (Morton) near the church, is the lands of Kirkton, the property of David Gillespie Esq. of Kirkton & Montquhanie, which were at the time Sibbald wrote, the property of a family of the name of Young."
