Location : old St David's Inn,  Boat Road

Street View Image

Photo / old map: Image Courtesy of the University of St Andrews Library, ID JV-972

= Property demolished or site redeveloped

Notes:      Sorry for the clunky nature of the historic photo, but you can enlarge it. The property has 2 smoking chimneys & is to the right of the Newport Hotel

Part of a sometimes divided property. Other parts: part of old St David's Inn

Introduction

Photo taken early 1878. Used as an inn before the Newport Inn was built in 1806. After that date it was divided into different properties. Part used as Post Office before c.1865. Building demolished late 1881 to make way for Trinity Church.

Commentary

Entries in local taxation returns listed here are speculative for John Hay - I am not certain whether they are for this property or Newport House at the top of the High Street.
