Election of Town Councillors: Ward 1: Alexander Henderson Smith, Morig, 4 Albert Crescent, no poll. Ward 2: George Scrymgeour, Cadzow, Woodmuir Terrace, no poll. Ward 3: William Ramsay, Ivybank, no poll.
Council: Ward 1: John Thomson Young, elected 1927; William Forrest French, elected 1928, Provost; Alexander Henderson Smith, elected 1929, Junior Bailie. Ward 2: Garnet Douglas Wilson, elected 1927; John Davidson, elected 1928; George Scrymgeour, elected 1929, Senior Bailie. Ward 3: George Tudhope, elected 1927; James Barry Robb, elected 1928; William Ramsay, elected 1929.
November 1929. Fife Electric to commence laying cables.
Application for a petrol installation at The Tower (Smith Hood & Co) - objections (for commercial purposes) - refused.
Resignation of Councillor Garnet D Wilson on election as Dundee councillor.
Co-option of James Young, Taycliff, Tayport Road to fill vacancy.
Buses stopping at Dr Stewart's corner - not allowed.
'Mars' memorial: ? Council to take it over? ?move it to another site? Council would take it over if £200 given to the Council for use for the memorial.
4 February 1930. Electricity: discussion about charges, and what would happen in Wormit on the change of supplier.
10 new buildings, 7 alterations.
Burgh Coat of Arms: using without Lord Lyon's permission.
Are the new houses to have electric light?
Proposals to use Woodhaven granary as a lodging house - objections by residents.
Newton Park: Special Drainage District - just outside south boundary of burgh. Council won't oppose (and therefore wouldn't extend the burgh boundary meantime).
Council not to take over 'Mars' memorial.
Local Government Act 1929: transfer of functions [from Parish Council] - cemetery to be taken over by Town Council until agreement reached with County Council.
Station Road scheme: E Niven to be given Mrs Bruce's house and Mr Niven's old house to be advertised. Not done - Niven didn't move. A M Pennie, Robertson Place given Mrs Bruce's house.
Classified and unclassified roads causing problems.
New housing to have electric light and gas cookers & fires, but gas street lamps.
August 1930. Death of ex-Provost Robert T Leitch. Death of Bailie Smith (who had retired from an active life at sea). Bailie Smith's vacancy not filled.
Ex-Provosts' lampposts to be painted brown.
Overhead wires: Fife Electric proposed overhead wires at Bay Road, Hillpark Terrace & Crosshill Terrace. Did Council object? - Yes. However, since Ministry of Transport permission can overrule this, they might be powerless to complain.
Mr Cappon, feuar of Berry's ground south of West Newport Station, is to give up the feu.
Retiring: J T Young, J Young, Tudhope, & 1 vacancy.
Vicarsford & Forgan burial grounds to be run by a joint committee of 9 Newport Town Councillors and 3 St Andrews Area Committee members.
Power cables in Bank Street and Prospect Terrace.
Poplar Place and James Square: additional WCs should be installed.
