Cupar 7 March 1862 … John Berry, Tayfield … sell … to David Brand, clerk, British Linen Bank Dundee, presently residing at Kempstane near Newport … all & whole the piece of ground, part of the ground called Kempstane, on N of turnpike road from Newport to Ferryport on Craig, marked 1 on plan by William Scott, architect Dundee … of park … immediately E of Easter Newport … 72 poles including a footpath 4' wide to be made on the E side thereof running between it and ground now belonging to the Eastern Bank of Scotland, but excluding from the measurement the footpath on the N side running between it and the seashore; bounded as follows - on N by that footpath, David Brand shall have no right to the seashore opposite the lot of ground; on W by lot 2; on S by the turnpike road; on E by first mentioned path … to erect a house within 12 months … not more that 1 storey in height above the level of the road … not less than £300 value … RS 32/333/274
