Cupar, 4 Nov 1802 … on 24 September 1802 … Thomas Just of Justfield as procurator for & in name of John Stein snr of Kennetpans & John Christie tenant Causehead baillie … feu charter by John Hay of Newport consent of Sophia Kircaldie, mother, to John Stein of piece of ground which extends along the High Road of Newport W from the W side of the slated stable of Newport for the space of 30 yds, and between said road and the high water mark in the opposite direction, the breadth of the ground to be 30 yds … privileges of (1) a road not exceeding 12 feet breadth from the W side of the harbour along the face of the bank, (2) and also of gathering stones along the shore as far as John Hay's lands of Newport extend for the purpose of erecting buildings on said land, declaring that should John Stein build a granary on said land the possessor thereof should pay for each boll delivered out of the granary for shipping a plack Scots of shore dues, & John Stein has liberty to bring vessels into the harbour of Newport … for shipping corn out of such granary but not have power to erect a public house or public stable on said ground nor to convert the buildings erected thereon into a public house or stable … witnesses include William Haig distiller Kincaple, & John Pitcairn excise officer Kincaple. … RS 32/52/499
