Cupar 23 Dec 1867 feu charter presented viz: John Berry Tayfield … sells & dispones … to John Thomson plumber in Dundee & heirs … all & whole the eastmost portion of all & whole pce grnd, a portion of the plantation called Gowrie Hill on S side of Queen St, said E-most portion extending to 39 pol 1.5 yd including half of proposed street 35' in breadth immediately to the south to be called Gowrie St in so far as it bounds said pce grnd, & also the whole breadth of proposed lane or footpath along the N boundary of the remainder or W-mostportion of said lot which lane or footpath is to be 7' broad & shall in all time coming be the property of John Thomson & successors … the E-most coloured pink, lane coloured green on plan … E-most portion bounded as follows - : on N by grnd feued by me to Duncan Macdonald teacher in Dundee & George Dunn Whyte joiner there, : on E by ground belonging to me still unfeued, : on S by proposed Gowrie St, : on W partly by remainder or W-most portion of said lot (coloured yellow) now feued or about to be feued to James Brown builder Newport & partly by said proposed lane … marked off by march stones by William Scott architect Dundee … [John Thomson] to erect within 2 years from date of entry a good & substantial dw ho, not more than 2 storeys, covered with blue slates … value not less than £300 … line of frontage shown on said plan … build walls S, N & E not over 6' height … since wall on N boundary & on N boundary of footpath already built by Duncan Macdonald, George Whyte Dunn & James Butchart grocer in Dundee … wall to be mutual … any offices etc other than the dw ho to be placed behind & to S of dw ho … to make & maintain half of Gowrie St & free use by me [Berry] & tenants & feuars of Newport - including pipes, drains, etc … to make a common drain … Entry Martinmas 1867, annual feu duty £4-17-7 … witnesses [including] Charles Augustus Elwenfechter, music teacher, Dundee … RS 32/361/167
