Feu by William Berry, Tayfield to Trs for Congregation of the Episcopal Church of Scotland, Newport. 30 Mar 1887 [sells] to Rev Samuel Baggaley Hodson, incumbent; Isaac Richards, inspector of works Castle Cottage Newport; Michael Flynn, Chief Officer Mars Training Ship Holly Cottage Newport; Robert Mathewson, fruiterer & dairyman Robert Street Newport; & George Mitchell, grocer & wine merchant Wellgate House Newport - members of the congregation of the Episcopal Church of Scotland, Newport presently under the pastoral care of Rev Samuel Hodson, as trustees … all & whole that area or pce grnd lately used as part of the garden ground of the Newport Hotel & which formerly formed a part of that field which is now almost all feued out & built upon called the Kilnburn Field, said field lying immediately E of the Tayfield House park … 41 pol 0.75 sq yd including in this measurement a strip 7'6" wide of the area of Kilnburn Place & Kilnburn Laneon S side of said piece grnd … bounded on N by the road between E & W Newport (107' frontage), on E (88') by centre line of wall on W side of Kilnburn Steps, on S (108'6") by Kilnburn Place or Kilnburn Lane, on W (111') by unfeued ground belonging to me occupied by Tayfield Estate Office & garden attached thereto … reserving the right to continue to use & maintain the main drain which is laid under the W side of the pce grnd from the back of the houses on the W side of Kilnburn Place to the River Tay, & also reserving any coins or antique articles of value found on said pce grnd … to be used as a site for a church & suitable accommodation relative thereto including a schoolroom & parsonage house … my approval of plans …value of church not less than £1000 … line of frontage to turnpike as in agreement 6 Apr 1867 (John Berry, William Wilson merchant Newport, & John Purvis of Kinaldy one of the Turnpike Trustees for St Andrews district) … church to be built within 1 year … [various conditions asd to building] … a main drain or common sewer from Kilnburn Place passes under the Kilnburn steps & across and under the road … opening into this drain to be under the supervision of Mr David Mackie builder Newport … RS 101/327/87 |
