There are now 28 ARP wardens, 7 messengers, 2 communications, 2 drivers. |
Suggested [by Government] 'public air raid shelters required for 200 persons at 4 points: 3 at railway stations (50, 50 & 25) and 1 at ferry pier (75)'. Council agree to provide 4 x 50 shelters, sites to be determined. |
Spray baths in Blyth Hall: being used by 100 soldiers a day, inadequate hot water supply, damage to floor, and anyway it was a first aid post, not a bath house for the military. |
July / August 1940. Death of ex-Provost Scrymgeour. |
Evacuation: no additional children to be sent to Newport. |
Gift of motor car ambulance - Miss E J Millar, Duncraig. |
Great increase in traffic down Victoria Street. |
Air raid shelters: 4 x 50 people shelters (1) at the slaughterhouse, Gas Lane; (2) Council property, King Street; (3) Broadhaugh; (4) east of Fife House, Wormit. |
Chief Constable would back application for Halt sign at Victoria Street / Cupar Road. Approved by Ministry of Transport. |
Horse trough at Seamills - not used for some time - should be removed. |
Air raid shelters: Broadhaugh site - tenant would vacate the premises if it were built. Speak to him again. ?Any other sites in West Newport? |
September 1940. Railings for scrap: Blyth Hall front railings might go. |
Minutes of Council had now been deposited at Clydesdale Bank, Dundee for safe keeping. |
Mr Berry to lay a tarmac footpath from the Smithy Brae to the Post Office. |
No elections to be held, but Provost Little resigns as a Councillor. |
Communal kitchen previously set up for evacuees had ceased to function and had now been taken over by the military. |
Polish soldiers in the burgh. |
Wormit recreation ground at Wormit School: continue with lease. |
Air raid siren to be put on roof of Wormit School. |
