| Clues to its location from newspaper reports of competitions: located at Inverdovat 'on ground commanding a wide prospect' and 'The ground at Inverdorvat, about one mile from Newport, is nicely situated, and commands a beautiful view of the surrounding country and the estuary of the Tay.' But the Fife Herald 13 Oct 1886 gives the full picture: 'between Inverdovat Farmhouse and The Cliff [now Chesterhill], bounded by Casewayhead Hill and the Tayport Road. | There were 3 sheds on the shore by the Big Rock (official name: Sea Craig). The largest, a boat house, was furthest north, right beside the Big Rock, shown on 1895 and 1914 Ordnance Survey maps. The southernmost shed was 67 metres south of the boat shed, was smaller and had a slip, but this was a bathing shelter. This is shown only on the 1914 map. In between was the smallest shelter, right on the beach, no slipway, used as a bathing shelter. | Developed by the proprietor of the Newport Inn in the 1850s, the green sat alongside a garden, and a quoiting ground (1861), on ground tenanted by the Inn. Interest appears to have waned in the 1860s and eventually the Newport Bowling Club was formed to play on a green, not here but at Seacraig in 1869.
